Idia’s Community Kitchen

Robert

Before attending Idia’s I felt I had no purpose or drive to do anything. I didn’t know what was available to me and relied heavily on family members for financial support. After discovering Idia’s when they set up at St Chads, I soon felt like I was part of the family. They gave me help with food and clothing, and after some time they helped me with internet access and showed me how to apply for the financial benefits I was entitled to. This has been a life changer for me. I now have money to support myself and no longer feel like a burden. My confidence has grown enormously even to the point where I am a regular volunteer giving back wherever I can. I now have a positive outlook on the future with Idia’s team by my side. Thank you to all of the amazing team.

I was trafficked to the UK from my home and family in St Vincent and had no recourse to public funds. I was down and out and had no other support. I came to Idia’s Community Kitchen and made new friends, ate delicious food and helped with the service. I cannot put into words how supported I felt by Idia’s “family” at a time when I was so far away from my own family. My children benefitted too as I was able to send home clothes and food I received from Idia’s. Now I’m in secure accommodation waiting for the Home Office to grant me leave to remain, but I still come to visit Idia’s to see my friends and bring donations I’ve collected from others. My family and I are beyond grateful to Idia’s for all the help and support.

I live on my own and my family are not nearby. I was lonely and struggling to feed myself in the month of February. I started coming to Idia’s and words cannot describe what I have experienced. I now know that I can be happy with so little and I love the positive energy from the volunteers are Idia’s.
